Back of the Book

The book is complete! BLUEPRINT is at the printers.

If you don’t already know, we’re going through a series this fall, focusing on the core components of real Christian faith, built on an unshakable gospel foundation. The book provides a blueprint for Christians in the local church to live out what Jesus has for us and a blueprint for those who don’t know anything about Christianity to see what it’s all about.

For six weeks from September 14-October 19, we’ll focus on six key areas of following Jesus. Connect with God. Connect with Others. Grow, Understand the Gospel. Grow, Know the Bible. Serve the City. Serve, Reach the World. Together, we’ll…

WORSHIP: Come to church for six weeks, worship God and hear sermons based on each week’s focus.

READ: Purchase the book at High Point starting on August 31 or online to read five readings each week.

DISCUSS: Get in a small group for six weeks and talk through what God is doing in your life and what you’re learning.

SERVE the city with your small group, family or other HPC people to serve on Saturday, October 19.

In the next few weeks, we want to give you little tastes of what the book has to offer. For starters, here’s an overview of what to expect from the back of the book. Stay tuned – we’ll be posting sections of the book throughout the upcoming weeks!

The first time you choose a church and hear about six principles that can make your marriage better, or five steps to better parenting, the sense of getting control of some problem area in your life again can be exhilarating.

But do the math: 5 principles x 52 weeks x 25 years = 6500 helpful tidbits, that when taken together become cluttered and overwhelming. The result is that people become tired, stuck, frustrated, and cynical. Is that really what Christianity is? Is that with the gospel of Jesus’ death and resurrection is all about? Is it about smarter living? Better parenting? More engaging communication? Uncommonly stellar romantic intimacy?

Blueprint is a book to help Christians find freedom and courage in coming out of the cluttered and stuck reality of therapeutic and moralistic spiritualties. Like a blueprint, this book seeks to simplify the core components of real Christian faith built on an unshakable gospel foundation. Like a blueprint, it seeks to clarify things enough to see the big picture without making it too simple so much as to be shallow or incomplete.

As a group of Christians build their spiritual lives together on an uncluttered gospel foundation, it will produce a more vibrant, powerful, courageous church than most Christians have yet dreamed they could be a part of. In the end, blueprint is designed to build unstuck and uncluttered churches as their people have the ability to stand clearly, freely and humbly on the gospel foundation.

Jesus said both, that we must take up our cross and follow him to execution, and that “…my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” His claim is that you can have deep peace and interest while simultaneously having the courage to face execution and ridicule at the hands of those who hate you. That’s what the gospel produces. It’s something 6500 helpful tidbits can never produce. But to get there you have to see the gospel’s basic components and their interconnection with each other. You have to get something clear in your mind and heart: the gospel blueprint.
